About David Lawes

I’m the Head of PPC here at Gorilla Marketing – this means that I oversee the PPC team and all of the PPC campaigns that we run, ensuring maximum results for all of our clients.

How did you get into the industry?

Many years ago I had a friend who needed help building websites as a freelancer, we heard about PPC and decided to start learning how we could offer services to make the sites we were creating generate revenue. Our first big client then poached me to do that for them full time and 15 years later here I am still not quite sure how it all happened!

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Having worked for and with some of the biggest brands in the UK, one of my biggest pleasures in the job is delivering results for the little guys competing against household international brands – I get a warm fuzzy feeling every time I do this.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I used to box competitively, and if I ever manage to get fit enough again after the damage I’ve done to myself in lockdown, I’d really like to have at least one more bout. I also have 3 wonderful children, so most of my spare time is filled finding adventures for the 4 of us to go on!

Tell us the most interesting fact you know

A quarter of all the bones in your body are located in your feet (26 in each foot, 52 total). I’m not sure why that information would be useful, but it’s now yours and can be used with my permission in pub quizzes.

What’s your favourite film / TV show?

Oh wow, far too many to mention! I’m a huge fan of classic British comedy series and can often be found binging my way through those. When it comes to film I love a cheesy old-school action flick or a tense thriller I probably tell people most often that my favourite film is The Usual Suspects, but my guilty pleasures are definitely White Chicks and Pretty Woman (not even sorry).

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I’m torn between New York for Christmas, simply because of all the amazing imagery I’ve seen in films over the years, and Mexico for Dia De Los Muertos as I’m fascinated by this festival and love the paraphernalia that goes with it, I even have a sugar skull tattoo.

What’s on the menu for your last meal on death row?

Everything! I love food of all description. Probably something really spicy though, as I love spicy food but get agonising stomach cramps the day after – so at least I wouldn’t have to worry about that!
