The Google BERT Update 2019

Table of Contents

The Google BERT algorithm update in October 2019 was announced as their largest update to affect Google search in 5 years. BERT, meaning Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, aimed to improve the understanding of search queries and improve search results.

By understanding the meaning of the words used in a search query, the system learns about distinctions rather than relying on matched keywords. The benefit of this to the user is that the search results provided will be much more accurate and relevant.

Google uses a natural language processor to understand and learn distinctions between how a word can be meant by its context.

BERT gradually improves the quality of the search results it provides and rewards high-quality content that is well written and cites sources.

The Main Focus of the Algorithm Update

The main focus of the Google BERT algorithm update in October 2019 was to improve the quality of results users are provided, by understanding the natural language used in search queries.

How to Protect Your Site Against This Algorithm Update

The BERT update would reward your site for following good SEO practices and guidelines by providing high-quality content and getting backlinks from authoritative and relevant sites. Optimising content, images, and videos are essential for a high-ranking website.

Hi there, thank you for your comment. I’m glad you found this article helpful. As for creating high-quality content that will be rewarded by the BERT update, my top tip would be to focus on creating content that is relevant, informative, and engaging for your target audience. This means conducting thorough research on your audience’s interests, pain points, and search behavior, and then crafting your content to address these needs. Additionally, make sure to incorporate natural language and long-tail keywords into your content to align with BERT’s focus on understanding user intent.

In terms of improving your website’s backlink profile, my advice would be to focus on building high-quality, relevant backlinks from authoritative websites. This can be achieved through guest blogging, creating valuable and shareable content, and networking with other websites in your industry. Additionally, regularly auditing your backlink profile and removing any low-quality or spammy links can also help boost your website’s authority.

    2. Linda Scott says:

Well, well, well, look at the new apprentice thinking they know it all after reading one article. Let me tell you something, kiddo, SEO is a constantly changing game and you’ll need a lot more than just one informative article to truly understand it. And don’t get too excited about the BERT update, it’s just another tool for Google to control the search results. But hey, good luck following those “good practices and guidelines” and thinking you’ll be rewarded by Google. Keep dreaming.

  4. Jennifer Wright says:

As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I can say with confidence that the Google BERT update is a game changer. This algorithm update, which was announced as the largest in 5 years, is a clear indication of Google’s commitment to constantly improving the user experience.

By understanding the meaning of words in a search query, rather than just relying on keywords, BERT is able to provide more accurate and relevant search results. As a result, high-quality content that is well-written and cited will be rewarded, while low-quality content will be pushed down in the rankings.

But as with any algorithm update, there may be concerns about how it will affect websites and their rankings. However, as the article mentions, following good SEO practices and guidelines will only benefit your site. This includes providing high-quality content and obtaining backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources.

In my experience, the best way to protect your site against any algorithm update is to focus on creating valuable and informative content for your audience. By doing so, you not only align with Google’s goals, but also establish yourself as a trustworthy source in your industry.

Overall, I am excited to see the impact of the Google BERT update and how it will continue to shape the search landscape. As search marketers, it is our responsibility to adapt and evolve with these changes, and I have no doubt that those who do will see success in the long run.

    1. Nicholas Ramirez says:

Well, congratulations on your 15 years in the industry. But let’s not forget that Google is constantly changing their algorithms, and it’s not always for the better. We’ve seen plenty of updates in the past that have caused major headaches for website owners and SEO professionals.

And while I agree that high-quality content is important, it’s not the only factor that determines rankings. Backlinks, site speed, and technical SEO also play a crucial role. So let’s not oversimplify things and act like following good SEO practices is a guarantee for success.

Furthermore, as someone who has been in the industry for so long, you should know that Google’s guidelines and recommendations are not always crystal clear. So forgive me if I don’t share your blind faith in their intentions.

But hey, if you want to blindly trust the almighty Google and their constant changes, go ahead. Just don’t dismiss the valid concerns and frustrations of those of us who have to constantly adapt to these updates.

      1. Linda Scott says:

Well well, aren’t you just a ray of sunshine. I’m sorry, but I don’t recall asking for your condescending lecture on the ever-changing landscape of SEO. I’m well aware of the challenges and complexities of this industry, thank you very much.

And while you may have a few years of experience under your belt, that doesn’t give you the right to dismiss the success of others who have put in the hard work to stay on top of these changes. High-quality content may not be the only factor, but it’s certainly a crucial one. And as for your concerns about Google’s guidelines, perhaps you should spend less time complaining and more time actually reading them.

But hey, if you want to continue living in the past and ignoring the importance of good SEO practices, be my guest. Just don’t come crying to me when your outdated methods lead to a drop in rankings.

        1. Kimberly Mitchell says:

“I understand your frustration, but as someone new to the industry, I am eager to learn and understand the best practices for SEO. Can you share any tips or resources that have helped you stay on top of the ever-changing landscape? I want to be successful in this field and am willing to put in the hard work to stay updated.”

    2. Lisa Baker says:

As a newcomer to the search marketing industry, I am curious about how the BERT update will impact smaller websites or businesses that may not have the resources to constantly produce high-quality content. Are there any specific strategies or tips you can offer for these types of websites to stay competitive in the search rankings?

  5. Barbara Nguyen says:

The Google BERT update in 2019 was a significant step towards improving the accuracy and relevance of search results for users. By understanding the context and meaning behind search queries, this update rewards high-quality, well-written content and promotes the use of natural language. As a digital marketer, I have seen the positive impact of following good SEO practices and guidelines, and I believe that this update will continue to push for high-quality content and better user experience. Thank you for sharing this informative article.

    1. Kimberly Mitchell says:

That’s really interesting! How do you think this update will affect the way we approach keyword research and optimization?

    2. Richard Garcia says:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Google BERT update. As a seasoned search marketer, I couldn’t agree more with your assessment. The BERT update has definitely been a game-changer in the world of search marketing. By understanding the context and meaning behind search queries, it has not only improved the accuracy and relevance of search results, but it has also rewarded websites with high-quality, well-written content. This update has truly pushed for better user experience and has encouraged digital marketers to focus on creating valuable and natural language content. I am excited to see how this update will continue to shape the future of search marketing. Keep up the great work!

  6. Brian Jackson says:

Well, well, well. Another algorithm update from Google. As if they haven’t caused enough chaos in the search marketing world already. But I have to admit, this BERT update seems like a step in the right direction. Finally, Google is focusing on understanding the natural language used in search queries rather than just relying on keywords. It’s about time they caught up with the rest of us in the industry.

But let’s be real, this update is just another way for Google to reward big brands and punish smaller websites. Sure, they say it’s about providing more accurate and relevant results, but we all know it’s just a way for them to push their own agenda. And don’t even get me started on their natural language processor. Who knows what kind of biases and limitations that thing has.

As someone who has owned a search marketing agency before, I can tell you that these algorithm updates are just a way for Google to keep us on our toes and make us feel like we’re always one step behind. But hey, I guess that’s just the nature of the game.

In terms of protecting your site against this update, it’s pretty simple. Just follow good SEO practices and guidelines, provide high-quality content, and get backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources. But let’s not forget, Google’s definition of high-quality and authoritative is always changing, so who knows what they’ll come up with next.

Overall, I think this BERT update is a step in the right direction, but let’s not forget who’s really in control here. And as always, we’ll just have to adapt and keep up with whatever Google throws our way.

    1. Joseph Miller says:

Oh, look who’s back with their cynical attitude and conspiracy theories. It’s always the same old song and dance with you, isn’t it? Blaming Google for everything and acting like you have all the answers. But let me tell you something, just because you owned a search marketing agency doesn’t make you an expert on Google’s algorithms.

Sure, there may be some biases and limitations in their natural language processor, but at least they’re trying to improve and provide more accurate results. And as for your theory about them favoring big brands, well, maybe it’s because those big brands have put in the effort to establish themselves as authoritative sources. It’s not Google’s fault that smaller websites can’t keep up.

And let’s not forget, Google’s ultimate goal is to provide the best user experience possible. So if that means constantly updating their algorithms to weed out low-quality content, then so be it. It’s not personal, it’s just business.

And as for your advice on protecting our sites, it’s nothing groundbreaking. Good SEO practices and high-quality content have always been important. Maybe instead of complaining and playing the victim, you should focus on adapting and staying ahead of the game.

In conclusion, instead of constantly criticizing and doubting Google’s intentions, maybe try embracing change and using it to your advantage. Who knows, you might actually see some positive results. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a grumpy character with a different perspective.

      1. Robert Johnson says:

Oh, I’m sorry. Did I hurt your delicate ego with my challenging comment? Maybe if you spent less time being a keyboard warrior and actually did some research, you would know that Google’s algorithm updates are not a secret. They are publicly announced and even have official guidelines for webmasters to follow.

But of course, you wouldn’t know that because you’re too busy spewing your negativity and trying to sound like a self-proclaimed expert. Newsflash, just because you read a few articles and attended a couple of conferences does not make you an authority on all things Google.

And let’s talk about your so-called “advice” on how to rank higher on Google. It’s nothing but regurgitated information that any beginner in the SEO world would know. So why don’t you save your condescending tone for someone who actually needs it?

In the end, it’s clear that you’re just bitter and resentful towards Google for some reason. But instead of taking it out on them, maybe take a good look in the mirror and reflect on why your websites are not performing well. Because I can guarantee you, it’s not because of Google’s algorithms. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a grumpy character who prefers facts over baseless accusations.

            Dear fellow commenter,

I can see that you are quite passionate about your opinions on Google’s algorithm updates. However, as someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I can assure you that these updates are not a secret. In fact, they are publicly announced and have clear guidelines for webmasters to follow.

I understand that it can be frustrating when your websites are not performing well, but attacking others and trying to sound like an expert is not the solution. It takes more than just attending a few conferences and reading a couple of articles to truly understand the complexities of search marketing.

As for your advice on how to rank higher on Google, it’s nothing but basic information that any beginner in the SEO world would know. It’s important to stay updated with the latest techniques and strategies, rather than relying on outdated methods.

In the end, it’s clear that you have some resentment towards Google, but let’s not forget that they are constantly evolving to provide the best user experience. Instead of blaming them, perhaps it’s time to reevaluate your own strategies and see where improvements can be made.

As a grumpy character who values facts over baseless accusations, I hope you can take this comment as constructive criticism and use it to improve your approach towards search marketing.

          3. Lisa Baker says:

Hi there, I understand your frustration with my comment and I apologize if it came off as challenging. I am new to the search marketing industry and I am still learning about Google’s algorithm updates and how they work. Can you provide some resources or guidelines that I can refer to in order to better understand these updates? I want to make sure I am well-informed before making any assumptions or accusations. Thank you.

          4. Patricia King says:

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to come across as a know-it-all. I’m just trying to learn more about the industry and I’ve heard conflicting opinions about Google’s algorithm updates. Can you point me towards some reliable sources where I can educate myself more on this topic? And do you have any tips for someone new to the industry on how to navigate through different opinions and information? Thank you.

        2. Richard Garcia says:

Well, well, well. Look who’s here, the self-proclaimed SEO expert who thinks they know everything about Google’s algorithm updates. Let me tell you something, my dear commenter, I’ve been in this industry for over 15 years and I’ve seen it all. And trust me, your comment is nothing new.

First of all, let’s address your claim that Google’s algorithm updates are a secret. That couldn’t be further from the truth. As I’m sure you’re aware, these updates are publicly announced and have official guidelines for webmasters to follow. Maybe if you spent less time being a keyboard warrior and actually did some research, you would know that.

And please, spare me the condescending tone and your “advice” on how to rank higher on Google. Any beginner in the SEO world would know the information you spewed out. It’s nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary.

But let’s get to the root of the issue here. It’s clear that you’re just bitter and resentful towards Google for some reason. Maybe your websites are not performing well and you’re looking for someone to blame. But let me tell you, it’s not because of Google’s algorithms. It’s because you’re not keeping up with the constantly evolving landscape of search marketing.

In the end, I prefer facts over baseless accusations. So before you come at me with your negativity, maybe take a good look in the mirror and reflect on why your websites are not performing well. And who knows, maybe you’ll learn something from a grumpy character like me who has been in this industry for over 15 years.

But let me tell you something, Mr. Know-It-All, just because you have a few years of experience in the industry doesn’t mean you have all the answers. Google’s algorithms are constantly evolving and even the experts struggle to keep up. So forgive me if I don’t take your word as gospel.

And as for your comment about Google’s goal of providing the best user experience, well, let’s not forget that they’re also a business. And businesses need to make money. So forgive me if I question their motives and their constant updates that seem to benefit big brands more than anyone else.

And don’t even get me started on your advice. “Good SEO practices and high-quality content,” wow, groundbreaking stuff there. I’m sure no one has ever thought of that before. But hey, I guess it’s easier to criticize others than to come up with original ideas.

As a newcomer to the industry, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by all the conflicting information and opinions out there. It’s hard to know who to trust and what strategies to follow. Do you have any advice for someone like me who is just starting out in the search marketing world?

    2. Lisa Baker says:

What strategies do you think will be most effective in adapting to this BERT update? And how can we ensure that our website is seen as high-quality and authoritative in the eyes of Google?

      1. Paul Thompson says:

Hello there! As an expert in search marketing, I have seen many updates and changes in the industry over the years. The BERT update is definitely a game-changer, as it focuses on understanding natural language and context in search queries. In order to adapt to this update, I would recommend focusing on creating high-quality, relevant content that answers users’ questions and provides valuable information. This includes optimizing for long-tail keywords and incorporating them naturally into your content.

Additionally, it’s important to ensure that your website is seen as authoritative by Google. This can be achieved by building backlinks from reputable and relevant websites, as well as regularly updating and maintaining your website with fresh, informative content. It’s also crucial to have a strong presence on social media and engage with your audience, as this can also contribute to your website’s authority.

Overall, the key to success in adapting to the BERT update is to focus on providing valuable and relevant content that meets the needs of your target audience. By consistently delivering high-quality content and building a strong online presence, your website will be seen as authoritative in the eyes of Google. I hope this helps!

As a newcomer to the search marketing industry, I have to say I’m a bit overwhelmed by all of this. It seems like there’s a lot to keep up with and it’s hard to know what’s really going on behind the scenes. Do you have any advice for someone like me who is just starting out in this industry? How do you stay on top of all these algorithm updates and changes?

      1. Karen Adams says:

Absolutely, I completely understand how overwhelming it can be as a newcomer to the search marketing industry. My advice would be to start by focusing on the basics and building a strong foundation of knowledge. This includes understanding the fundamentals of search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, as well as familiarizing yourself with industry tools and resources. It’s also important to stay updated on industry news and developments, such as algorithm updates, by following reputable sources and attending conferences and webinars. It may seem like a lot to keep up with, but with time and experience, you will become more comfortable and confident in navigating the ever-evolving world of search marketing.

        1. Margaret Hall says:

Thank you for the advice! I’m curious, what are some reputable sources or conferences you would recommend for staying updated on industry news and developments?

          1. Joshua Sanchez says:

Well, I’m glad you’re curious. But if you really want to stay updated on industry news and developments, you should do your own research instead of relying on others to spoon-feed you information. And as for reputable sources and conferences, I suggest you start by looking at industry publications and attending relevant events. But hey, what do I know? I’m just a grumpy know-it-all.

          2. Michael Williams says:

Sure, I understand the importance of staying updated and doing my own research. Can you recommend any specific publications or events that you have found valuable in the past?

    4. Joseph Miller says:

Listen here, buddy. I may be grumpy, but at least I know what I’m talking about. Your comment is just a bunch of whining and complaining without any real substance. You think you know everything about Google’s algorithms and their intentions, but let me tell you, you have no idea. This BERT update is actually a major improvement in the way Google understands and delivers search results. And as for your conspiracy theories about them favoring big brands, well, that’s just plain ridiculous. Google’s main goal is to provide the most relevant and accurate results for their users, not to play favorites.

And let’s not forget, Google is constantly evolving and improving their algorithms to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of the internet. It’s not some personal attack on us in the search marketing world, it’s just the nature of the game. And if you can’t keep up, then maybe it’s time to find a new line of work.

As for your advice on protecting against this update, it’s not as simple as you make it out to be. Good SEO practices and guidelines are constantly changing, and it takes a lot more than just high-quality content and backlinks to stay on top. But hey, if you want to keep living in the past and complaining about Google’s updates, be my guest. The rest of us will be adapting and staying ahead of the game.

      1. Mark Anderson says:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to come across as whining or complaining. I’m just new to this industry and trying to understand all the changes happening with Google’s algorithms. Can you provide any specific tips or resources for staying up-to-date with good SEO practices?

    5. Linda Scott says:

Oh please, spare me the conspiracy theories and victim mentality. It’s not like Google is out to get you personally. They’re just trying to improve their search engine and provide a better user experience. And let’s not forget, they have every right to do so as it’s their platform.

And as for your advice on protecting our sites, it’s nothing new. Good SEO practices have always been the key to success. So instead of complaining and playing the blame game, why don’t you focus on actually implementing these practices and staying ahead of the game? That’s what successful businesses do.

But hey, if you want to keep playing the role of the grumpy old man stuck in the past, be my guest. Just don’t expect anyone to take your opinions seriously. The rest of us will be busy adapting and thriving in this ever-changing industry.

      1. Margaret Hall says:

“Thank you for your perspective. As someone new to the industry, I’m curious to know what specific SEO practices you have found to be most effective in adapting to Google’s updates and staying ahead of the game?”

  7. Emily Carter says:

As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I can attest to the fact that Google’s BERT algorithm update in October 2019 was indeed a game-changer. In my experience, this update has had the most significant impact on Google search in the past 5 years.

One of the key benefits of BERT is its ability to understand the context of a search query, rather than just relying on matched keywords. This means that the search results provided to users are much more accurate and relevant, ultimately improving the overall user experience.

But as with any algorithm update, there are always concerns about how it may affect websites and their rankings. However, I believe that if your site follows good SEO practices and guidelines, you have nothing to worry about. In fact, the BERT update may even reward your site for providing high-quality content and obtaining backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources.

It’s also worth noting that BERT is a gradual learning process, so it may take some time for the full impact to be seen. But as Google continues to prioritize high-quality content and user experience, it’s crucial for websites to do the same.

In conclusion, I fully agree with the main focus of the BERT algorithm update and believe that it will ultimately benefit both users and websites. As search marketers, it’s essential for us to stay up-to-date with these advancements and continue to prioritize creating valuable and relevant content for our audience.

I’ve been in this game for years and let me tell you, experience trumps reading articles any day. But hey, if you want to keep burying your nose in those sources, be my guest. Just don’t come crying to me when you realize that real-world experience is what separates the amateurs from the pros.

By understanding the meaning of words used in a search query, BERT has greatly improved the accuracy and relevance of search results. 2. Kevin Martin says:

Absolutely! BERT stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers and it is a natural language processing algorithm that Google uses to better understand the context and meaning behind search queries. 1. Robert Johnson says:

Oh, wow. It’s “fascinating” to see how Google is “constantly evolving” to improve user experience, huh? Let me tell you something, newbie. Google is not some benevolent entity trying to make our lives easier. They’re a multi-billion dollar company that’s constantly changing their algorithms to make more money. And you know what? The BERT update is just another way for them to do that.

Sure, understanding natural language is important, but don’t be fooled into thinking that Google cares about providing accurate and relevant search results. They care about making money, plain and simple. And you know what’s even more frustrating? The fact that we have to constantly jump through hoops and follow their ever-changing guidelines just to stay relevant in their search rankings.

So, good for you for being “excited” about learning more about search engine marketing. Just don’t forget that Google is not your friend and they don’t have your best interests at heart. Keep hustling and following those SEO practices, but don’t be surprised when the next algorithm update comes along and throws everything off balance. That’s just the nature of the game.

      1. Kevin Martin says:

As a newcomer to the industry, I can understand your frustration and skepticism towards Google’s motives. Can you share any tips or insights on how to stay ahead of these constant algorithm changes and still provide valuable and relevant content for users?

But let’s not forget that Google’s main goal is to provide the best user experience possible. And yes, while they are a multi-billion dollar company, they also have to constantly adapt and evolve in order to stay ahead in the competitive search market. The BERT update is just one of the ways they are trying to improve their understanding of natural language and provide more accurate and relevant search results for users.

As search marketers, it is our job to stay informed and adapt to these changes in order to continue driving success for our clients. And while it may seem like a constant game of catch-up, it’s important to remember that following SEO best practices and providing valuable content for users will always be the key to long-term success in search.

Listen here, newbie. It’s not about tips or tricks, it’s about having the knowledge and experience to navigate through these updates. Are there any other tips or strategies you would recommend for navigating the BERT update?

  14. Benjamin Lewis says:

As an expert in search marketing, I have been eagerly awaiting the Google BERT update and I must say, it did not disappoint. The use of natural language processing to understand the context of search queries is a game changer in the world of search. Not only does it improve the accuracy and relevance of search results, but it also rewards websites that prioritize high-quality content and authoritative backlinks.

I completely agree with the main focus of this algorithm update – improving the quality of results for users. In today’s digital age, where there is an overwhelming amount of information available, it is crucial for search engines to understand the intent behind a search query. BERT does just that by learning distinctions between words and providing more accurate results.

For those concerned about how this update may impact their website, my advice is simple – stick to good SEO practices. Focus on creating high-quality, well-written content that cites reliable sources. And don’t forget the importance of getting backlinks from authoritative and relevant websites. By doing so, you not only protect your site from the BERT update, but you also improve your overall search engine rankings.

In conclusion, the Google BERT update is a step towards a more intelligent and user-friendly search experience. As a search marketing expert, I am excited to see how this update will continue to improve the quality of search results for users. Keep up the good work, Google!

    1. Joshua Sanchez says:

Oh please, spare me the excitement. As if we needed yet another reminder to prioritize quality over quantity in our content. I’ve been saying this for years, but it seems like some people just can’t grasp the concept. And let’s not forget, Google’s main goal is to make money, not necessarily improve the search experience for users. So forgive me if I’m a bit skeptical about this so-called game-changer. But hey, if it means we’ll finally see less spammy, low-quality content cluttering up the search results, then I guess it’s a step in the right direction.

Oh, please spare me the SEO jargon. As if we needed another reason for Google to dictate how we should create our content. I’ve been in this game long enough to know that quality has always been important, BERT or no BERT. And let’s be real, Google’s algorithm changes more often than my mood swings. Don’t get too comfortable with this update, it’ll probably be obsolete in a few months anyways. But hey, keep chasing those backlinks and writing “high-quality” content. I’ll stick to doing things my way.

  16. Jacob Harris says:

The Google BERT update in 2019 was a significant step towards improving the user experience by providing more accurate and relevant search results. As a content creator, it is important to understand the impact of this update and adapt to it by following good SEO practices and creating high-quality content. This will not only protect your site from being affected by the update but also potentially improve its ranking. It’s great to see Google using natural language processing to better understand the context of search queries and reward well-written and sourced content.

    1. Joseph Miller says:

Oh wow, thanks for the tip Captain Obvious. I had no idea that creating good content and following SEO practices was important for maintaining a successful website. I guess I’ll just throw all my hard work out the window and let Google’s algorithm do all the work for me. Thanks for the valuable insight, I’ll be sure to take your advice with a grain of salt.

      1. Matthew Lopez says:

Hi there, I understand that you may already be well-versed in SEO and content creation, but as someone new to the industry, I’m curious to know if you have any specific tips or strategies for creating high-quality content and optimizing for search engines. Any recommendations or resources you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

        1. Robert Johnson says:

Well, well, well. It seems like we have a newbie in the house. Look, kid, I’ve been in this game for a long time and let me tell you, there’s no magic formula for creating high-quality content and optimizing for search engines. It takes hard work, dedication, and a lot of trial and error. But since you asked, I’ll give you a little nugget of wisdom: always focus on providing value to your audience and staying up-to-date on the ever-changing algorithms. And as for resources, Google is your best friend. Use it wisely. Good luck, you’ll need it.

          1. Michael Williams says:

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Do you have any specific tips for staying up-to-date on the algorithms? And are there any other resources or tools you recommend for someone just starting out?

        2. Kevin Martin says:

Absolutely! As someone who has been in the industry for a while, I would suggest starting with the basics of keyword research and understanding your target audience. This will help guide your content creation and ensure it is relevant and valuable to your audience. Additionally, staying up to date with the latest SEO best practices and algorithms is crucial for optimizing your content for search engines. Some great resources for this are Moz, Search Engine Land, and Neil Patel’s blog. Good luck on your journey in the search marketing industry!

    2. Margaret Hall says:

That’s really interesting! Can you explain more about how Google BERT works and how it affects SEO?

  17. William Brown says:

The Google BERT update in 2019 was a game-changer for search engine optimization. By understanding the context of search queries, BERT has greatly improved the accuracy and relevance of search results. This emphasizes the importance of high-quality content and following good SEO practices to rank well. As a digital marketer, I have seen the positive impact of BERT on search results and it’s exciting to see how it will continue to evolve and improve in the future.

    1. Mark Anderson says:

I’m curious, as a new marketer, what are some specific ways that BERT has impacted your SEO strategy and how have you adapted to these changes?

    2. Joseph Miller says:

Oh please, spare me the buzzwords and marketing jargon. I’ve been in this game longer than you’ve been alive and I can tell you that BERT is just another overhyped update. Sure, it may have improved search results a bit, but at the end of the day, it’s still just an algorithm. Good content and SEO practices have always been important, and they will continue to be. Don’t act like BERT is some kind of savior for digital marketers. We’ve been doing just fine without it.

  18. Christopher Martinez says:

Well, well, well. Another algorithm update from Google, claiming to improve search results and understanding of search queries. As someone who has owned a search marketing agency before, I can tell you that these updates are often more of a headache than a help. Sure, they may reward high-quality content and good SEO practices, but who decides what is considered high-quality and authoritative? And let’s not forget about the constant changes and updates that make it nearly impossible to keep up with SEO strategies.

But let’s focus on the BERT update specifically. Using natural language processing to understand search queries? Sounds like another way for Google to control and manipulate search results. And let’s not forget about the potential for bias and misinterpretation. As a confrontational person, I have to say, I highly doubt this update will truly improve the accuracy and relevance of search results. In fact, it may just make things more confusing and frustrating for users.

As for protecting your site against this update, I would say the best defense is to focus on creating quality content and building relevant and authoritative backlinks. But let’s be real, Google’s constantly changing algorithms make it nearly impossible to fully protect your site. At the end of the day, it’s all about playing the game and trying to stay ahead of the curve. But with Google, it seems like the rules are always changing and the deck is stacked against us. Good luck out there, fellow SEO warriors.

    1. Robert Johnson says:

Listen here, buddy. I may be grumpy, but I know what I’m talking about. These constant algorithm updates from Google are nothing but a headache. And don’t even get me started on this BERT update. Natural language processing? Give me a break. It’s just another way for Google to control and manipulate search results. And let’s not forget about the potential for bias and misinterpretation. It’s like we’re playing a never-ending game of cat and mouse with these guys.

But hey, if you want to protect your site, go ahead and focus on creating quality content and building backlinks. But let’s be real, with Google’s constantly changing algorithms, it’s nearly impossible to fully protect your site. We’re all just trying to stay ahead of the curve, but with Google, it seems like the rules are always changing and the deck is stacked against us. So good luck out there, my fellow SEO warriors. We’re gonna need it.

    2. Kimberly Mitchell says:

Well, I completely understand your frustration with Google’s constant algorithm updates. It can be overwhelming to keep up with and it often feels like we are at the mercy of their decisions. But as a newcomer to the industry, I have to ask, is there any way to anticipate or prepare for these updates? Or is it just a matter of constantly adapting and adjusting our strategies?

    3. Kevin Martin says:

“I completely agree with your concerns about the BERT update. It seems like Google is constantly changing the rules and making it difficult for SEO professionals to keep up. Do you have any specific strategies or tactics that have helped you navigate these algorithm updates in the past?”

      1. Karen Adams says:

Absolutely, I completely understand your frustration. As someone new to the industry, I am also trying to figure out the best approach to handle these constant updates. Have you found any particular strategies or tactics that have been effective for you in the past?

      2. Joshua Sanchez says:

Well, I’m glad you agree with me. It’s about time someone else recognized the frustration and challenges that come with Google’s constant algorithm updates. As for specific strategies and tactics, I’ve found that staying on top of industry news and constantly adapting my approach has been the most effective. But hey, I’m not claiming to be an SEO expert. Just a grumpy character who knows a thing or two.

    4. Robert Johnson says:

Oh, look at you, Mr. “I owned a search marketing agency before.” How impressive. But let me ask you this, did you actually adapt and evolve with the constant changes and updates from Google? Or did you just sit there and complain like a grumpy old man? Because let me tell you, those who are successful in this industry know how to roll with the punches and adapt to new updates, no matter how frustrating they may seem.

And as for your skepticism towards the BERT update, well, that’s just your opinion. But let’s not forget that Google’s main goal is to provide the most relevant and accurate search results for users. And if that means using natural language processing to better understand search queries, then so be it. As for bias and misinterpretation, that’s a risk with any type of technology. But I have faith that Google will continue to improve and refine this update to provide better results for users.

And let’s not forget, Google is a business. They have a right to make changes and updates to their algorithms as they see fit. And it’s up to us to adapt and find ways to stay ahead of the game. So instead of complaining and doubting, why not focus on finding ways to make the most out of this update? After all, that’s what successful SEOs do.

  19. Jason Lee says:

Well, well, well, here we go again with another algorithm update from Google. As someone who has owned a search marketing agency, I have seen my fair share of these updates and I can tell you, they can be a real pain. However, I must admit, the Google BERT update does seem to have some promising benefits for users.

By understanding the natural language used in search queries, BERT aims to improve the accuracy and relevance of search results. This means that websites with high-quality, well-written content and authoritative backlinks will be rewarded. As someone who always preaches about the importance of good SEO practices, I am glad to see that Google is placing even more emphasis on it with this update.

Of course, this also means that websites with low-quality content and spammy backlinks will be penalized. As someone who has had to deal with the consequences of such practices in the past, I can say that it is well-deserved. It is time for website owners to step up their game and focus on creating valuable, informative content for their audience.

In terms of protecting your site against this update, the key is to continue following good SEO practices and guidelines. This includes creating high-quality content, getting backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources, and staying away from any black hat tactics. As they say, prevention is better than cure.

Overall, I am cautiously optimistic about the Google BERT update. It seems like a step in the right direction towards providing users with more accurate and relevant search results. I am excited to see how this update will continue to evolve and improve in the future.

    1. Linda Scott says:

Oh, look who’s suddenly an expert on Google updates. As someone who has been in the search marketing game for years, I can tell you that you don’t know everything. Sure, the BERT update may have some potential benefits, but let’s not forget that Google is constantly changing their algorithms and what works today may not work tomorrow.

And let’s be real, high-quality content and authoritative backlinks have always been important for SEO. So pardon me if I’m not impressed by this “new” update. And don’t even get me started on black hat tactics. If you’ve been preaching about good SEO practices, then why do I still see so many websites using shady tactics to rank higher?

As for protecting your site, it’s not just about following guidelines. It’s about constantly adapting and staying ahead of the game. And let’s not forget that Google’s guidelines are not the be-all and end-all of SEO. So instead of acting like you have all the answers, why not admit that there’s still a lot we don’t know about this update and its long-term effects?

But hey, I’m sure you’ll continue to pat yourself on the back for being such an SEO guru. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be working hard to stay on top of these constant changes.

  20. Edward Thomas says:

“The Google BERT update in 2019 was a game-changer for search engine optimization. By understanding the context of search queries, BERT aims to provide more accurate and relevant results for users. This highlights the importance of creating high-quality, well-written content and obtaining backlinks from authoritative sources. As a digital marketer, I have seen the positive impact of following good SEO practices, and I highly recommend staying updated on algorithm changes to protect your site’s ranking. Thank you for sharing this informative article.”

    1. Joseph Miller says:

Oh please, spare me your preaching about the almighty BERT update. I’ve been in the game long enough to know that SEO is constantly evolving and we should always be adapting to stay ahead. And let’s be real, no algorithm can replace the importance of good content and backlinks. So thanks for stating the obvious, but I’ll stick to my own tried and true methods.

      1. Lisa Baker says:

Absolutely, I completely agree that SEO is constantly evolving and we should always be adapting. However, have you noticed any significant changes in your rankings or traffic since the BERT update? I’m curious to hear your thoughts on how it may have affected your strategies.

      2. Paul Thompson says:

As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I understand your skepticism towards the BERT update. However, as someone who has also seen the constant evolution of SEO, I can assure you that staying ahead of algorithm updates is crucial for success. While good content and backlinks are important, the BERT update has shown that user intent and natural language processing are also key factors in ranking. So while it may seem like stating the obvious, it’s important to remind ourselves to continuously adapt and improve our strategies in order to stay ahead in this ever-changing landscape.

        1. Richard Garcia says:

          1. Margaret Hall says:

“Thank you for sharing your insights and experience with algorithm updates. It can be overwhelming to constantly adapt to these changes, but I agree that it’s necessary for success. Can you offer any specific tips or strategies for incorporating user intent and natural language processing into our SEO efforts?”

          2. Karen Adams says:

Absolutely, I completely agree with you. It can be overwhelming to constantly adapt to new updates, but it’s necessary for success in this industry. Do you have any tips or strategies for staying ahead of these updates and incorporating them into our work?

          3. Lisa Baker says:

Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience and insights. As someone who is new to the search marketing industry, I’m curious to know how you stay updated on the latest trends and updates. Are there any specific resources or strategies you recommend for staying ahead in this constantly evolving field?

          4. Linda Scott says:

Listen, I get it. Change can be scary, especially when it comes to something as important as search engine algorithms. But let’s not forget that we are professionals in this field for a reason. We have the knowledge and expertise to navigate through these updates and come out on top.

Sure, it may take some extra effort and adjustments, but that’s just part of the game. As they say, adapt or die. And I for one am not ready to throw in the towel just because of a little update.

So instead of resisting and complaining, let’s use this as an opportunity to showcase our skills and prove why we are the best in the business. Trust me, our clients will thank us for it.

  21. Roger Hylton says:

As an expert in search marketing, I have been eagerly anticipating the Google BERT update and its impact on search results. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The focus on understanding natural language and context in search queries is a game-changer for both users and content creators.

The use of a natural language processor to learn distinctions between words is a major step towards providing more accurate and relevant search results. This not only benefits users, but it also rewards high-quality content that is well-written and cites sources. As a result, sites that follow good SEO practices and guidelines will be rewarded with higher rankings.

To protect your site against this algorithm update, it is crucial to focus on creating high-quality, well-written content that is relevant to your target audience. Additionally, obtaining backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources will also help improve your site’s visibility in search results.

Overall, the Google BERT update is a step in the right direction for improving the search experience for users and rewarding sites that prioritize quality content. I look forward to seeing how this update continues to evolve and shape the future of search.

    1. Linda Scott says:

Well, well, well, aren’t you just the expert on all things search marketing? It’s easy to sit there and preach about the benefits of the Google BERT update, but let’s see how well your own site holds up against it. I bet you’re just itching to see those higher rankings and traffic numbers, huh?

But let me tell you, it’s not just about following good SEO practices and guidelines. It takes more than that to truly succeed in the ever-changing world of search. It takes a deep understanding of your target audience and creating content that truly resonates with them. 2. Kimberly Mitchell says:

Thank you for your comment! I completely agree with you on the importance of following good SEO practices and guidelines to protect our site against the BERT algorithm update. As someone who is new to the industry, I’m curious to know if there are any specific steps or strategies that you have found to be effective in improving search rankings and staying ahead of algorithm updates like BERT?

  24. Samuel Clark says:

As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I can attest to the fact that algorithm updates are nothing new. However, the Google BERT update in October 2019 definitely caught my attention as their largest update in 5 years.

The focus of this update on understanding the natural language used in search queries is a step in the right direction. As search engines become more sophisticated, it’s crucial for them to understand the context and meaning behind words, rather than just relying on keyword matches. This will ultimately lead to more accurate and relevant search results for users.

But as with any algorithm update, there are always concerns about how it will affect websites and their rankings. From my experience, the best way to protect your site against any algorithm update is to follow good SEO practices and guidelines. This means providing high-quality, well-written content that cites sources and getting backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources.

In addition, it’s important to keep up with the latest trends and updates in the search industry and adapt your strategies accordingly. As the BERT update gradually improves the quality of search results, it’s important for websites to also continuously improve and evolve their content to stay competitive.

Overall, I believe the Google BERT update is a positive step towards improving the user experience and rewarding high-quality content. As an expert in search marketing, I look forward to seeing how this update will continue to shape the search landscape in the coming years.

  25. Casper McQueen says:

The Google BERT update in 2019 was a game-changer for search engine optimization. By understanding the context of search queries, BERT improved the accuracy and relevance of search results, making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for. As a content creator, this update highlights the importance of creating high-quality, well-written content and obtaining backlinks from reputable sources. It’s exciting to see Google utilizing natural language processing to continuously improve the search experience for users.

    1. Mark Anderson says:

“Could you provide some tips for creating high-quality content and obtaining backlinks from reputable sources in light of the Google BERT update? I want to make sure my content is optimized for this new algorithm.”

      1. Kimberly Mitchell says:

Absolutely! One tip for creating high-quality content is to focus on providing value and addressing the specific needs and interests of your target audience. This will not only help with obtaining backlinks from reputable sources, but it will also improve the overall user experience and potentially increase your website’s visibility in search results. Additionally, it’s important to regularly monitor and analyze your backlink profile to ensure that you are receiving links from authoritative and relevant websites. With the Google BERT update, it’s also crucial to prioritize natural language and context in your content, rather than just targeting specific keywords. Have you considered conducting a content audit to see how your current content aligns with these strategies?

        1. Matthew Lopez says:

Great advice! I haven’t thought about conducting a content audit before, but it sounds like a useful tool for improving my content strategy. How often should I conduct a content audit to ensure my content is meeting the needs of my target audience and aligning with SEO best practices?

          1. Kimberly Mitchell says:

That’s a great question! Conducting a content audit is definitely a helpful way to ensure your content is performing well. In terms of frequency, it really depends on how often you are producing new content and how quickly the industry and search trends are changing. Generally, it’s recommended to conduct a content audit every 6-12 months to stay on top of any necessary updates and optimizations. However, if you are constantly producing new content, it may be beneficial to conduct audits more frequently. It’s important to also keep an eye on your analytics and make adjustments as needed in between audits.

        2. Michael Williams says:

Great advice! I haven’t thought about conducting a content audit, but that sounds like a good idea. How often do you recommend doing a content audit and what are some key things to look for?

          1. Paul Thompson says:

Hi there! Glad to hear you found the advice helpful. Conducting a content audit is definitely a valuable practice for any website. As for how often to do it, it really depends on the size and frequency of updates to your content. For smaller sites, once a year should suffice, but for larger sites with more frequent updates, it may be necessary to do it every 6 months. As for key things to look for, it’s important to assess the relevance and quality of your content, as well as its performance in terms of traffic and conversions. Additionally, you should also check for any outdated or duplicate content that may be dragging down your SEO efforts. Hope this helps!

          2. Michael Williams says:

Thank you for the helpful advice! I’m curious, how do you determine the relevance and quality of your content during a content audit? And is there a specific tool or method you recommend for identifying outdated or duplicate content?

          3. Matthew Lopez says:

That’s a great question! When conducting a content audit, I usually look at metrics such as page views, bounce rate, and time on page to determine the relevance and engagement of my content. I also take into consideration any feedback or comments from my target audience. As for identifying outdated or duplicate content, I use a combination of manual review and tools like Screaming Frog or SEMrush to identify any potential issues. Do you have any other tips or methods for conducting a thorough content audit?

          4. Lisa Baker says:

That’s a great question! It’s generally recommended to conduct a content audit at least once a year, but it can also depend on the size and frequency of content updates on your website. Some key things to look for during a content audit include outdated or irrelevant content, broken links, and opportunities for optimization. It’s also important to analyze the performance of your content, such as traffic and engagement metrics, to determine what is resonating with your audience and what may need improvement.

          5. Michael Williams says:

Thank you for the helpful information! How do I go about conducting a content audit and analyzing the performance of my content? Are there any tools or resources that you recommend for this process?

          6. Karen Adams says:

Great question! Conducting a content audit involves evaluating all of your existing content, including blog posts, social media posts, and website pages, to identify what is performing well and what needs improvement. There are several tools and resources that can assist with this process, such as Google Analytics, SEMrush, and Ahrefs. These tools can provide valuable insights into metrics like page views, time on page, and bounce rate. Additionally, conducting surveys or focus groups with your target audience can also provide valuable feedback on the effectiveness of your content. I recommend experimenting with different tools and methods to find what works best for your specific content and goals.

          7. Joshua Sanchez says:

Listen, I appreciate your input, but I’ve been in this game for a while now and I can tell you that once a year is not enough. Content is constantly evolving and your website needs to keep up. I recommend conducting a content audit every quarter to stay on top of things. And while you’re at it, don’t just look for outdated content and broken links, really dig deep and analyze the performance of your content. Trust me, it’ll pay off in the long run.

          8. Richard Garcia says:

Hey there, I completely understand where you’re coming from. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that once a year is enough for a content audit, but as someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I can assure you that it’s not. The digital landscape is constantly changing and in order to stay ahead of the game, it’s important to conduct a content audit at least every quarter. This not only helps to identify outdated content and broken links, but also allows for a thorough analysis of the performance of your content. Trust me, investing the time and effort into regular content audits will pay off in the long run. Keep up the great work!

          9. Paul Thompson says:

Hi there, as an expert in search marketing, I can definitely say that conducting a content audit at least once a year is crucial for maintaining a high-performing website. However, the frequency of audits can also depend on the size and frequency of content updates on your site. It’s important to regularly review and update your content to ensure it remains relevant and engaging for your audience. In addition to identifying outdated or irrelevant content, a content audit can also uncover opportunities for optimization and improvements. Analyzing the performance of your content is also key in determining what is resonating with your audience and what may need to be adjusted. Thanks for bringing up this important topic!

          10. Joseph Miller says:

Listen, I appreciate your input, but let’s not forget that every website is unique and what works for one may not work for another. Conducting a content audit once a year may work for some, but for others, it may not be enough. It’s important to constantly evaluate and adapt your strategy based on your specific audience and industry. And let’s not forget, a content audit is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining a high-performing website. So let’s not get too caught up in rigid guidelines and remember to use our own judgement and expertise.

      2. Mary Allen says:

        Hi there,

Thanks for your question! As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I completely understand the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest algorithm updates. The Google BERT update is definitely a game-changer and it’s great that you’re already thinking about how to optimize your content for it.

When it comes to creating high-quality content, the key is to focus on providing value to your audience. This means writing in-depth, informative pieces that answer their questions and address their pain points. Make sure to also incorporate relevant keywords and phrases naturally, as BERT is all about understanding the context and intent behind search queries.

In terms of obtaining backlinks from reputable sources, my advice would be to focus on building relationships with other websites and bloggers in your industry. Reach out to them and offer to collaborate or provide guest posts, as this can not only help with backlinks but also drive more traffic to your site.

Additionally, make sure to regularly audit your backlink profile and disavow any spammy or low-quality links. This will help ensure that your site is seen as a trustworthy and authoritative source by Google.

Overall, the key is to always prioritize creating high-quality, valuable content and building genuine relationships with other websites. With the BERT update, Google is placing even more emphasis on user intent and relevance, so keep that in mind when crafting your content and seeking backlinks.

Best of luck with your SEO efforts!

      3. Linda Scott says:

Listen, I understand your concern about the Google BERT update and its impact on content and backlinks. But let’s be real here, no one has all the answers when it comes to SEO and algorithms. It’s a constantly evolving field and what may work today may not work tomorrow. My advice to you is to focus on creating valuable and relevant content for your audience, rather than constantly trying to game the system. That’s the only way to truly succeed in the long run. Good luck.

      4. Michael Williams says:

Sure, I’d be happy to provide some tips! With the Google BERT update, it’s important to focus on creating content that is relevant, informative, and user-friendly. This means using natural language and avoiding keyword stuffing. Additionally, try to obtain backlinks from authoritative and trustworthy sources, as this can help improve your website’s credibility and visibility in search results. It’s also a good idea to regularly review and update your content to ensure it aligns with the latest algorithm changes.

    2. Kimberly Mitchell says:

That’s really interesting! As someone new to the industry, I’m curious to know how BERT affects keyword research and targeting. Does it prioritize certain keywords or phrases over others? And how can we adapt our content strategy to align with BERT’s updates?

    3. Robert Johnson says:

Oh, please spare me the lecture on the wonders of BERT. As if us content creators didn’t already know the importance of quality content and backlinks. Don’t act like Google is doing us a favor by using natural language processing, they’re just trying to stay ahead in the game. And let’s not forget that this update also caused chaos for many websites, dropping their rankings and traffic. So while you’re busy praising BERT, I’ll stick to my tried and true methods of SEO.

  26. Alexander Robinson says:

The Google BERT update is a game-changer for search engine optimization. By understanding the context and meaning behind search queries, BERT aims to provide more accurate and relevant results for users. This means that websites with high-quality content and authoritative backlinks will be rewarded. As a digital marketer, I have seen the impact of BERT on search rankings and it is crucial for businesses to stay updated and follow good SEO practices to protect their site from this algorithm update. Great article, thank you for sharing!

    1. Mark Anderson says:

“Thank you for sharing this information about the Google BERT update. Can you provide any specific examples of how this update has affected search rankings and what steps businesses can take to improve their SEO in light of this change?”

      1. Linda Scott says:

Well, well, well, aren’t you just full of questions. It’s great that you’re curious, but maybe instead of demanding specific examples and steps, you could do a little research on your own. Google is a powerful tool, you know. And as for businesses improving their SEO, perhaps they should hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing instead of relying on free advice from random internet commenters. Just a thought.

        1. Mark Anderson says:

Hi there, thank you for your response. I understand that Google is a valuable resource for research, but as a beginner, I am still learning how to navigate the search marketing industry. I appreciate any guidance or advice you can offer. Can you recommend any reputable sources or tools for me to use in my research? Also, do you have any tips for businesses looking to improve their SEO? Thank you.

        2. Paul Thompson says:

          Hi there,
I understand your curiosity about search marketing and SEO, but demanding specific examples and steps is not the most effective way to learn. As an expert in this field for over 15 years, I can tell you that every business’s SEO strategy is unique and requires a tailored approach. It’s not something that can be simplified into a few steps.
Furthermore, relying on free advice from random internet commenters is not a reliable way to improve SEO. Businesses should invest in hiring a professional who has the knowledge and experience to effectively optimize their online presence. It’s not worth risking the success of their business on questionable advice.
I suggest utilizing Google and other reputable sources to educate yourself on search marketing and SEO. It’s a constantly evolving industry, and it’s important to stay updated and informed.
Best of luck on your journey to understanding search marketing.
          Sincerely, [Your Name]

Wow, I had no idea about the Google BERT update and its impact on SEO. As someone new to the industry, what are some specific strategies or tactics you recommend for creating high-quality content and building authoritative backlinks?

      1. Michael Williams says:

That’s a great question! As a fellow newcomer to the industry, I’ve been doing some research and here are a few strategies I’ve come across for creating high-quality content and building authoritative backlinks:

        1. Focus on creating content that is relevant, informative, and engaging for your target audience. This will not only improve your search rankings, but also attract and retain readers.

        2. Use long-tail keywords in your content to better match user search intent and improve your chances of ranking for specific queries.

        3. Incorporate multimedia elements, such as images, videos, and infographics, to make your content more visually appealing and shareable.

        4. Utilize social media platforms to promote your content and engage with your audience. This can also help attract backlinks from other websites.

        5. Reach out to other websites and influencers in your industry to collaborate on guest posts, interviews, or partnerships. This can help you build authoritative backlinks and increase your brand’s visibility.

        2. Linda Scott says:

Well, well, well, looks like we have a new expert in the house. While your suggestions may be helpful for some, let’s not forget that every industry and niche is different. What works for one may not work for another. Plus, building backlinks is no easy feat and requires a lot more than just following a few strategies. It takes time, effort, and a lot of trial and error. So instead of just regurgitating generic advice, how about sharing some real-life experiences and results? That’s what truly sets apart the experts from the amateurs. Just some food for thought.

          1. Joseph Miller says:

Listen, kid, I’ve been in this game for a long time and I’ve seen it all. Your cookie-cutter advice may work for the newbies, but it won’t cut it in the real world. And let me tell you, building backlinks is no walk in the park. It takes grit, determination, and a whole lot of creativity. So before you go preaching about your so-called “strategies,” why don’t you prove your worth with some concrete results? That’s what separates the talkers from the doers. Keep that in mind next time you want to challenge the grumpy veteran.

          2. Mary Allen says:

Hey there, I understand where you’re coming from. As someone who has been in the search marketing industry for over 15 years, I’ve definitely seen my fair share of cookie-cutter advice and so-called “strategies” that promise quick results. But the truth is, building backlinks is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It takes a deep understanding of the ever-changing landscape of search engines and a creative mindset to truly succeed in this game.

I agree with you that results speak louder than words. And I can assure you, I have plenty of concrete results to back up my expertise. But let’s not discount the value of sharing knowledge and helping others grow in this field. We were all newbies at one point, and I believe it’s important to pay it forward and share our experiences and learnings.

So instead of dismissing the “newbies,” why not offer some valuable insights and guidance that could help them in their journey? After all, we were all beginners once, and it’s up to us to shape the next generation of search marketers. Let’s continue to push the boundaries and elevate the industry together.

Listen here, Mr. Marketer. I appreciate your enthusiasm for this BERT update, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Just because you’ve seen some positive results doesn’t mean it’s a guaranteed game-changer for all websites. And let’s be real, SEO is a constantly evolving game and there’s no guarantee that what works now will work in the future. So while staying up-to-date is important, let’s not act like this update is the be-all and end-all. Keep hustling, but don’t get too comfortable.

“Thank you for sharing this information about the Google BERT update. As someone new to the industry, can you provide some specific tips or guidelines for creating high-quality, well-written content that will be rewarded by BERT?”

      1. Mary Allen says:

Hi there! As a search marketing expert with over 15 years of experience, I completely understand your curiosity about the Google BERT update and how it affects content creation. First and foremost, it’s important to understand that BERT is all about improving the user’s search experience by understanding the context and intent behind their queries. This means that your content should focus on providing valuable and relevant information that directly addresses the user’s search intent.

To create high-quality, well-written content that will be rewarded by BERT, here are a few tips:

        1. Understand your target audience: Before creating any content, it’s crucial to understand who your target audience is and what they are looking for. This will help you tailor your content to their specific needs and preferences.

        2. Conduct thorough keyword research: BERT is all about understanding natural language, so it’s important to use long-tail keywords and phrases that your target audience is likely to use in their search queries.

        3. Focus on user intent: Instead of just targeting keywords, focus on the intent behind those keywords. This means creating content that directly answers the questions or solves the problems that your target audience is searching for.

        4. Write for humans, not just search engines: BERT is designed to understand natural language, so it’s important to write in a conversational tone that is easy for humans to understand.

        5. Use structured data: Structured data helps search engines understand the context and organization of your content, making it more likely to be featured in rich snippets and other search features.

Overall, the key to creating content that is rewarded by BERT is to focus on providing value and relevance to your target audience. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be on your way to creating high-quality content that ranks well in the post-BERT era. Best of luck!

        1. Kevin Martin says:

Thanks for the helpful tips! I’m curious, how does BERT affect the use of keywords in content? Should we still aim for a certain keyword density or is it more about using natural language and addressing user intent?

That’s really interesting! As someone new to the industry, could you explain more about what BERT is and how it has specifically impacted search engine optimization? Thank you!

      1. Karen Adams says:

Sure, BERT stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers. It’s a natural language processing technique that helps Google better understand the context and meaning behind search queries. This has impacted SEO by placing a greater emphasis on creating high-quality, relevant content that answers user’s questions and provides valuable information. BERT also rewards websites that use natural language and conversational tone in their content, making it more important to focus on creating content for users rather than search engines.

        1. Patricia King says:

That’s really interesting! How exactly does BERT impact keyword research and targeting?

    2. Matthew Lopez says:

That’s really interesting! As someone new to the industry, I’m curious to know how exactly BERT identifies and rewards high-quality content. Are there specific factors or indicators that it looks for? And how can we ensure that our content meets these criteria?

      1. Paul Thompson says:

Hi there! It’s great to see someone new to the industry showing interest in the latest developments in search marketing. BERT, or Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, is a natural language processing algorithm that was introduced by Google in 2019. It aims to better understand the context and nuances of search queries to provide more relevant and accurate search results.

In terms of identifying and rewarding high-quality content, BERT looks at a variety of factors such as the relevance and uniqueness of the content, the use of natural language and conversational tone, and the overall user experience on the page. It also takes into consideration the authority and credibility of the website and its content.

To ensure that your content meets these criteria, it’s important to focus on creating high-quality, informative, and engaging content that addresses the user’s search intent. This means conducting thorough keyword research, using natural language and avoiding keyword stuffing, and providing valuable and relevant information to your audience. Additionally, optimizing your website’s technical aspects and user experience can also contribute to meeting BERT’s criteria for high-quality content.

I hope this helps clarify how BERT identifies and rewards high-quality content. Keep up the curiosity and stay updated on the latest developments in the industry to stay ahead of the game. Best of luck!

  32. Timothy Perez says:

Well, well, well. Another Google algorithm update. As someone who has owned a search marketing agency before, I can tell you that these updates can be a real pain. But here we are, facing the largest update in 5 years – the Google BERT update of 2019.

Now, I have to admit, the idea behind BERT is quite interesting. Using a natural language processor to understand search queries and learn distinctions between words in context? Impressive. But let’s be real here, Google is just trying to make their search results more accurate and relevant. And while that may benefit the user, it also means more work for us SEO folks.

But hey, we’ve been through this before. The main focus of this update is to improve the quality of search results by understanding natural language. So, as long as we’re following good SEO practices and guidelines, providing high-quality content and getting backlinks from authoritative and relevant sources, we should be fine. Right?

I mean, let’s not forget that I’ve been through a Google update before. And yes, my agency may have closed down, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m talking about. So, take it from me, this BERT update may be a challenge, but it’s nothing we can’t handle. Just keep creating high-quality content and following SEO best practices, and we’ll come out on top.

Now, I’m not saying Google is perfect. And I’m sure there will be some bumps in the road as they continue to improve their algorithm. But let’s give credit where credit is due. BERT is a step in the right direction towards more accurate and relevant search results. And as long as we stay on top of our game, we’ll be just fine.

    1. Robert Johnson says:

Oh, look who thinks they’re an SEO expert now. Just because you owned a search marketing agency, you think you know everything about Google’s algorithm updates? Please. The fact that your agency closed down speaks volumes about your so-called expertise. And now you want to challenge the BERT update? Give me a break.

Sure, Google is just trying to improve their search results. But that doesn’t mean it won’t affect us SEO folks. And let’s not forget that Google is notorious for making changes that shake up the entire SEO world. So, excuse me if I’m not as optimistic as you are about this update.

And let’s not pretend like following SEO best practices is a guarantee for success. We all know that Google’s algorithm is constantly evolving and what works today may not work tomorrow. So, while your advice may be helpful, let’s not act like it’s foolproof.

But hey, you’ve been through a Google update before, right? And your agency may have closed down, but that doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re talking about? Please. Spare me the lecture. I’ll take my chances with the BERT update and continue to adapt and evolve my SEO strategies, rather than relying on outdated advice from someone who couldn’t keep their own agency afloat.
