Salford Quays & Media City

MediaCityUK is a 200-acre (81 ha) mixed-use property development on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford and Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The project was developed by Peel Media; its principal tenants are media organisations and the University of Salford.

The BBC signaled its intention to move jobs to Manchester in 2004, and the Salford Quays site was chosen in 2006. ITV Granada completed the first phase of its move to MediaCityUK on 25 March 2013, followed in two stages by the northern arm of ITV Studios.

Across the water from Media city is Salford Quays, known as one of the Northwest’s best cultural, sporting and leisure destinations. Attractions include the Lowry Shopping Outlet, Vue Cinema, a range of restaurants, from Nando’s to Pier Eight, and bars such as the trendy Alchemist which serves amazing cocktails by the waterfront.

Perhaps the best-known attractions of Salford Quays is the stunning Lowry theatre, which hosts an exciting programme of talent all year round. Productions include national and international drama, ballet, opera and dance shows as well as musicals, music concerts, comedies and fun family-friendly performances.

Other attractions at Salford Quays include the Helly Hansen Watersports Centre, where you can take part in a range of activities such as kayaking, wakeboarding or powerboating. Arguably, the Historical Manchester Ship Canal is an attraction in itself with many taking part in organised outdoor swimming events and city centre cruises.

Other attractions include the iconic Imperial War Museum and the world-famous home of Manchester United, Old Trafford Football Stadium, is also close by.
