FAQ ABOUT OUR WEB DESIGN SERVICES

WHAT IS A WEBSITE & WHAT DO I NEED TO GET ONE?

Most people know what a website is, but not much on how sites and the internet actually all work. A website is really just a bunch of files or a program that you have stored on a web server or the web server of someone else (which is where hosting comes into it). This web server with your files is always connected to the internet, which people are able to view and access through a web browser.

Your domain name is the plain-text address that you put into your browser, which has with it assigned DNS settings such as your A records (which IP address your files are on and where to send visitors) and your MX records (where to send emails).

DOES MY BUSINESS NEED A WEBSITE?

To be honest – no. There are countless businesses out there who are very profitable and enjoy a steady stream of new business and don’t rely on the internet for it. Saying that though, there is very little doubt that many of them are losing many customers to competitors that have capitalised on the web and what internet marketing has to offer.

WHAT IS A CMS AND WHICH ONE DO YOU USE?

A CMS, or content management system, is a web application that manages your website for you in a way which requires you to have little or no knowledge of code to manage it or make any changes. The most popular (and in our opinion best) content management system is WordPress.

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system based on PHP and MySQL. Unlike their online service, WordPress is installed on a private web server that is normally held by a hosting company, with the contents accessed through your chosen domain name. As of February 2017, it was estimated that WordPress was installed on more than 60 million websites and made up 27.5% of the top 10 million websites in the world.

If you would like to speak to us about a custom WordPress design or development project then please feel free to get in touch.

WHAT DOES RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN MEAN?

A responsive website describes sites that are viewable on all devices such as mobile, tablet and PC. All the websites that we build at Gorilla Marketing are responsive by default.

WHAT IF MY WEBSITE IS WITH WIX OR WEEBLY ETC?

If your website is currently with WIX and you would like it built the exact same looking website (or something completely different!), but within WordPress – we are able to do that for you. The normal process involves us building your new website on a test server, making sure you are happy with the look and feel of the website before the move and your customers see it. We then change your A records to the new site to make it live to the world, and then transfer your domain either to our hosting solutions or one that you have selected (in which time your new site will be live the whole time). If you have an @yourdomain.com email address, your emails will remain unaffected too, as your MX records will point to Google / Outlook anyway, as that is a requirement for Wix websites.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A WEBSITE?

Depending on how big your web project is, the design can take a few days to a couple of months. We do like to stick to the following rough guidelines though:

  • Landing Page Design (1 week)
  • Local Business Website (10 days)
  • Small E-Commerce Website (2 weeks)
  • Large E-Commerce Website (3 weeks)
  • Medium Custom WordPress Development (3 weeks)
  • Large Custom WordPress Development (6 weeks)

WHAT ABOUT THINGS LIKE LOGOS, BANNERS AND PICTURES?

We also have talented in-house graphic designers who are able to handle all your logo, banner and branding design needs, which are billed separately to the design of the website.

We often ask our clients to supply their own photos / pictures for their website.

E-COMMERCE & NON-STATIC WEBSITES

Ecommerce and other non-static websites often rely on their user to complete the entire sales process online. Examples of this could be:

  • An online store that sells products online (digital or physical).
  • An estate agent who wants to showcase their properties.
  • An online course that requires membership.
  • A directory or listings website.
  • A forum or small social network.

All of this and more can be accomplished using WordPress as your CMS, with Gorilla Marketing able to develop and provide long term maintenance plans. We are also experts with the Shopify platform, and are able to integrate their powerful backend with the highly customizable user interface of WordPress – giving you an online shop that not only looks spectacular, but also has the best possible e-commerce & conversion capabilities available on the internet.

DO I NEED TO USE GORILLA'S WEB HOSTING?

If you are looking at Gorilla Marketing to handle your web design needs you are more than welcome to use either our hosting at a reduced price or you can source your own hosting provider if you would like to keep the two services independent of one another.

HOW MUCH DOES A NEW WEBSITE COST?

This will all depend on the type of website that you want to be built for your business. The costs that are involved vary from agency to agency, with some being once off (like the physical build of the website) and then often monthly for things like hosting and any maintenance that may be required.
