An HTTPS certificate means that your website is secure between server and browser – no third party is able to see any requests or information sent between the user and the website. As of August 2018, Chrome will mark all websites that don’t have an SSL certificate as ‘insecure’ in an effort to push along efforts to institute an encryption standard. This after previously giving preference to websites in the search engines that were secure and was only one of many on-page ranking factors.
If you host your website with Gorilla Marketing & wish to install your own SSL certificate (we’ll normally do this for you if we’re building your website) then the video on the left gives detailed instructions on how to do so. We use ‘Let’s Encrypt SSL’ which allows you to easily install a certificate from your cPanel backend. We recommend installing the security certificate before you install WordPress so that there are no problems with an upgrade / insecure content further down the line.
